Aug 3    2019 Johnson County Fair Parade
Bring the whole family out for a free morning of entertainment in beautiful downtown Gardner!  The creative floats will reflect this year’s theme, "Back to Our Roots".  

Grab your lawn chairs and plan to arrive early for the best seats! The parade begins at 10:00am!

 

Parade Rules

  • The entry deadline is 5:00 pm on the Monday, July 29th .  Late entries will be allowed to participate but will not be judged or have their description announced (late fees apply). So register early and save $$.
  • Check in at Registration area between 7:30 and 9:00 AM Saturday at the Wheatridge Wrestling Building (across from the USD #231 District Office).
  • Provide proof of insurance is required on all vehicles at registration.
  • Do Not Throw anything from a moving vehicle.  Walking participants may distribute items (candy, balloons, flyers, etc.)  
  • A Float is defined as any entry that is decorated, movable on at least 4 wheels, and pulled by any vehicle. Proof of insurance required on the vehicle
  • All Prizes must be picked up by 1:00 pm on the Sunday following parade at the fair office.

Entry classification: Register according to your category. Call 913-856-6464 if you have questions. 

Category 1: 4-H Floats - FREE
Category 2: Horse & Rider or Horse-Led Floats - FREE
Category 3: All commercial/political entries AND any civic/individual entry wishing to be judged - $20
Category 4: Any civic/individual entry NOT wishing to be judged

This introductory seminar is an overview of the critical first steps associated with pursuing government contracts. The Kansas Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC) presents information on how to get started in the government contracting arena including federal, state and local government registrations and certifications. Please join us for a cup of cheer and networking with your fellow Chamber members at the Southwest Multi-Service Center in Gardner. This wonderful facility provides Outreach Services to individuals and families in need living in the Gardner/Edgerton and Spring Hill school districts. Feel free to bring a friend...everyone is welcome! It's a great way to start your day! 

Parking is limited so you may park across the street at Meadowbrook Rehabilitation Hospital if needed.

Aug 17    2019 Gardner Grind Adventure Race

Do you have what it takes to complete the Gardner Grind?  On Saturday, August 17, Gardner Parks and Recreation will host an adventure race at Celebration Park.  On the trail around the west side of the park there will be obstacles, water challenges and of course...mud!!  Expect to get dirty and have a great time!  The race is one mile long and there will be 14-15 challenges along the way.  In addition to the race, there will be music and snacks available to all.  Each participant will receive a  t-shirt as well as other items.  The ages for the race are 7 to 107 years old!  The first heat will go off at 8:00 a.m. that morning and anywhere from 2-3 heats will go off per hour.

This presentation by the Kansas Department of Revenue specifically targets construction contractors and subcontractors. The workshop covers how sales tax applies to materials and labor, project exemption certificates, sales tax returns, and billing.

This workshop covers the basics of Sales Tax and Use Tax as it applies to retail business, as well as the appropriate uses of the different exemptions that may be encountered. Aug 31    Gardner Day at the K
The City of Gardner and the Gardner Edgerton Chamber of Commerce present "Gardner Day at the K!" Join us on Saturday, Aug. 31, at Kauffman Stadium, to cheer on Gardner Edgerton High School Alumni Derek "Bubba" Starling and John Means as the KC Royals take on the Baltimore Orioles.

When you purchase a ticket at $25 each through www.gardneredgerton.org/events, your name will be entered into a drawing. If you're selected, you and a ticketed guest will watch batting practice on the field and meet Bubba Starling!

First pitch is at 6:15 p.m., but the fun will start at 3:00 p.m. with a tailgate party in the stadium parking lot, located at 1 Royal Way, Kansas City, Missouri. (More details to follow.)

Tickets are on sale through Tuesday, Aug. 27, and available for pickup on Thursday, Aug. 29, and Friday, Aug. 30, at the Parks and Recreation counter in Gardner City Hall, 120 E. Main St.
